Basketball Preview: Plainview Pirates vs. O'Neill Eagles
Plainview is 1-8 against the Eagles since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the Plainview Pirates will get right back to it and host the O'Neill Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. Plainview will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
On Monday, Plainview came up short against the Blue Devils and fell 51-41. Plainview has struggled against the Blue Devils recently, as their match on Monday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Teya Boyer put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Abbie Kromarek, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, O'Neill scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They really took it to Creighton for the full four quarters, racking up a 69-42 win on the road.
O'Neill's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Ashley Sidak, who scored 17 points along with four steals, and Hannah Hilker, who scored 20 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Bergyn Classen, who scored six points along with two steals.
Plainview's loss dropped their record down to 14-5. As for O'Neill, their win ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 8-13.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Plainview have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like O'Neill struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
