Basketball Recap: Ella Wiese's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Douglas County West over Platteview

After flying high against Conestoga last Tuesday, Douglas County West came back down to earth. The Douglas County West Falcon fell 50-41 to the Platteview Trojans on Friday. If the Falcon were looking for revenge after losing 66-64 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Douglas County West lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ella Wiese, who went 6-for-12 on her way to 16 points. Those 16 points gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addison Strong, who posted 13 points and eight boards.

Brooklyn Stehlik had a dynamite game for Platteview, dropping a double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds. Stehlik has become a key player for Platteview: the team is 4-2 when she posts at least ten boards, but 4-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jolee Deweese, who had 12 points.

Douglas County West's record is now 9-13. As for Platteview, their record now sits at 8-13.

Coming up, Douglas County West will square off against Syracuse at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Platteview, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Crete at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
