Baseball Recap: Blackford Takes a Loss

Blackford had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 6-6 to make it four. They lost 13-3 to the University Trailblazers. The Bruins were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trailblazers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2019.

Blackford saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaden Price, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

As for University, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-6. The team dominated over those games too, winning by an average of 16.5 runs.

On University's side, Caleb Stocker looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Stocker has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, University let Charlie Ranek and Ryan Castetter run wild. Ranek went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two RBI, and one double, while Castetter went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Castetter has become a key player for University: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Cooper Burnett also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Blackford wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 14-1 win against Wes-Del on the 26th. As for University, they have also already played their next game, a 6-5 defeat against Kokomo on the 26th.
