Basketball Recap: Ely Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Ely can now relate to. They came up short against the Cromwell Cardinals on Tuesday, falling 57-32. While losing is never fun, the Timberwolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Cardinals are ranked 106th).

Isabella Anderson was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 24 points and ten boards for Cromwell. The match was Anderson's third in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Shannon Lund, who posted seven points along with six rebounds and three steals.

The loss snapped Ely's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 13-9 record. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points over those games. As for Cromwell, they are on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season.

Ely does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cromwell, they will square off against Mountain Iron-Buhl at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mountain Iron-Buhl comes in on seven and Cromwell on three.
