Basketball Game Preview: Washington-Liberty Generals vs. Yorktown Patriots

Washington-Liberty and Yorktown are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The Washington-Liberty Generals will take on the Yorktown Patriots at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Washington-Liberty turned things around against Wakefield on Thursday. They strolled past the Warriors with points to spare, taking the game 58-44.

Meanwhile, Yorktown came tearing into Friday's game with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 62-47 win over the Highlanders. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 11th, while the Highlanders are ranked 149th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Yorktown's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. As for Washington-Liberty, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-10.

Washington-Liberty couldn't quite finish off Yorktown when the teams last played back in February of 2024 and fell 51-49. Can Washington-Liberty avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
