Baseball Recap: Mattoon Greenwave vs. Champaign Central Maroons
It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Mattoon ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They skirted past the Champaign Central Maroons 3-2. For the Greenwave, this counts as revenge for the 9-5 win the Maroons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.
Mattoon got a great performance from Fletcher Gregory as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Gregory has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Isaiah Warrington was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.
Mattoon's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-7. As for Champaign Central, their loss dropped their record down to 11-10-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mattoon will host Mt. Zion at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Champaign Central, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Centennial at 6:00 p.m.
