Softball Game Preview: Idaho Falls Tigers vs. Blackfoot Broncos

For the second straight game, Idaho Falls will face off against Blackfoot. The Tigers will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Broncos at 3:30 p.m. Idaho Falls has given up an average of 9.4 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Idaho Falls managed to slip by Blackfoot the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Tigers came up short against the Broncos on Wednesday, falling 12-2. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Tigers couldn't push the score so high this time.

For Blackfoot's part, Brianna Reynolds spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, Blackfoot got a massive performance out of Shea Staley, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave Staley a new career-high. Leah Mecham was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Blackfoot kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive games.

Blackfoot pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Idaho Falls, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.

Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Idaho Falls hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Blackfoot struggles in that department as they've averaged .408. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
