Baseball Recap: Peru Wins Going Away Against Wes-Del

The Peru Tigers made easy work of the Wes-Del Warriors on Saturday and carried off a 16-6 win. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Devin Evans was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucas Musser, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Peru: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 3-4 otherwise. Reis Bellar also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Peru was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wes-Del only posted a batting average of .158.

Peru is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Wes-Del, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-10.

Coming up, Peru will be playing at home against Manchester at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Squires have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. As for Wes-Del, they will head out to face off against Tri-Central at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
