Basketball Recap: Lexington Comes Up Short

Lexington was the 83-41 winner over Irmo when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Lexington Wildcats received a blow on Saturday as they fell 60-44 to the Irmo Yellow Jackets. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 138th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 47th).

Irmo got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Christian Brown out in front who went 5 for 10 on his way to 12 points in addition to five assists and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Antwoine Pierce, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 11 points and six rebounds.

Lexington has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Irmo, they pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Lexington will square off against Chapin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lexington is facing Chapin at the right time seeing as Chapin is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Irmo, they will host River Bluff at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. River Bluff will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Irmo surely won't give up without a fight.
