Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Knoxville Catholic). They put the hurt on the Webb Spartans with a sharp 19-5 victory on Monday. Considering the Fighting Irish have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Caitlin Brooks made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Brooks was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Emily Lemaster was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Hadley Troutt, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Knoxville Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win was the fifth in a row for Knoxville Catholic, bringing their record up to 16-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Webb, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.
Coincidentally, Knoxville Catholic and Webb will both be playing Chattanooga Christian the next time they take the field. The Fighting Irish will head out to face the Chargers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Spartans will host them at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
