Basketball Game Preview: Newton Tigers vs. Bay Springs Bulldogs

The Newton Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Bay Springs Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Newton sitting on four straight wins and Bay Springs on five.

Last Thursday, Newton beat Lake 54-42.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Bay Springs against Scott Central on Tuesday as the team secured a 62-26 victory. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while the Rebels are ranked 169th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bay Springs' win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-5. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.6 points over those games. As for Newton, their victory bumped their record up to 15-7.

Newton and Bay Springs were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in January, but Newton came up empty-handed after a 40-39 defeat. Can Newton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
