Volleyball Game Preview: Mt. Carmel Cubs vs. East Jefferson Warriors

The Mt. Carmel Cubs will face off against the East Jefferson Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mt. Carmel has 12 straight wins, East Jefferson has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

If Riverdale wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Mt. Carmel, they should've done a better job of containing Kyleigh Smith. The Cubs put the hurt on the Rebels with a sharp 3-0 victory on Wednesday thanks in part to Smith, who had eight digs and five aces. She is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served five or more in each of the last three games she's played.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Mt. Carmel was: they took every set by at least 12 points. The final score came out to 25-8, 25-13, 25-6.

Meanwhile, East Jefferson suffered their biggest loss since October 2nd on Thursday. They came up short against Chalmette, falling 3-0.

Mt. Carmel's win bumped their record up to 26-2. As for East Jefferson, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-20.

Mt. Carmel took their victory against East Jefferson when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. Do the Cubs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
