Softball Recap: Cheney Extends Home Winning Streak to 13

Cheney put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on the Belle Plaine Dragons with a sharp 11-1 victory. Give the Cardinals' hitters some serious credit: that high-scoring performance was actually the fewest runs they've scored all season.

Erika Block made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Macey Batt, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Adelle Fouquet, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Cheney was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .345 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Cheney's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Belle Plaine, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-16.

Cheney will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Dragons: the pair will be back at it again later today.
