The Madisonville Mustangs will face off against the Bellville Brahmas at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Madisonville took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They were the clear victor by an 11-4 margin over Trinity.
Maylynn McCarty spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ellie West, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Jayci Morriss was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Bellville made easy work of Brazos on Tuesday and carried off a 16-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Brahmas.
Kirklynne Romero and Ella Burnett made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Romero tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Burnett struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest hits she has allowed over her last ten contests. At the plate, Romero scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Burnett scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Alizabeth Romero was a standout: she scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Dristas, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 4-for-4.
Bellville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Brazos only posted an OBP of .222.
Madisonville's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bellville, they now have a winning record of 8-7-1.
Madisonville skirted past Bellville 6-5 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will Madisonville repeat their success, or does Bellville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
