            Volleyball Recap: Melrose Red Raiders vs. Burlington Red Devils        
        
		
        
        
            Melrose lost against Burlington back in September and unfortunately they wound up with the same result  on Monday. The Red Raiders fell just short of the Red Devils by a score of  3-2. Red Raiders fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Red Devils since  Monday.
 Melrose took Burlington into a fifth set  but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 19-25, 13-25, 25-15,  15-13.

 Several Red Raiders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was   Sadie Smith, who  had 31 assists and seven  digs. Smith has been hot for a while, having  posted 14 or more  assists the last 13 times she's  played. The team also got some help courtesy of  Anna Burns, who  had 21  digs and one  assist.
Melrose has  been struggling recently as they've  lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record  this season. As for Burlington, their victory was  their third straight on the road, which  pushed their record up to 14-4.
 We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Melrose is set to  challenge  their familiar foe Stoneham  at 5:30  p.m.  on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Burlington will  face off against  rival Wilmington  at 5:30  p.m.  on Thursday.
