Basketball Recap: Saniya Mcfarlin's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pell City over Mountain Brook

Pell City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against the Mountain Brook Spartans, falling 67-45. Sadly, that's the third time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 51-18 back in November of 2024.

Pell City's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Saniya McFarlin, who went 5 for 10 en route to 16 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Kahlyn Martin, who posted eight points.

Pell City's loss dropped their record down to 7-21. As for Mountain Brook, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.

Pell City will be playing at home against Woodlawn at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mountain Brook, they will challenge Briarwood Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Briarwood Christian is on a six-game streak of home wins, Mountain Brook a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
