Softball Game Preview: Volunteer Falcons vs. Greeneville Greene Devils

The Volunteer Falcons will face off against the Greeneville Greene Devils at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Greeneville's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Volunteer hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. Volunteer's pitchers stepped up to hand Chuckey-Doak a 14-0 shutout on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Greeneville won against Chuckey-Doak on Monday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Everything went Greeneville's way against Cosby as Greeneville made off with a 15-0 win. Winning may never get old, but the Greene Devils sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Brynlee Jones was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kaley Garland was a standout: she fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kyla Jobe, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Greeneville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .576 or higher in three consecutive games.

Greeneville pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Volunteer, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.
