Recap: Rutherford Rams vs. Godby Cougars
The Rutherford Rams had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.9 points), and they went ahead and made it 13 on Friday. They blew past Godby 68-30 at home. Rutherford has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 20 points or more this season.
Shakirah Edwards was her usual excellent self, scoring 16 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nautica Bouie, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten assists.
Rutherford's victory was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.9 points per game. As for Godby, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rutherford will challenge West Florida at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully West Florida focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Thursday. As for Godby, they will head out on the road to challenge FAMU DRS at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. FAMU DRS will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 532nd, while Godby is ranked 184th).
