Softball Game Preview: Grinnell Tigers vs. Independence Mustangs

The Grinnell Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Independence Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Grinnell has seven straight wins, Independence has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Wednesday, Grinnell earned a 9-6 victory over Solon.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Independence's offense. They lost 10-0 to Clear Creek-Amana on Wednesday. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by exactly ten runs.

Grinnell's win bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Independence, their loss dropped their record down to 6-13.

Grinnell came out on top in a nail-biter against Independence when the teams last played back in July of 2025, sneaking past 5-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
