South Elgin is 0-3 against Batavia since September of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The South Elgin Storm will venture away from home to face off against the Batavia Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m.
South Elgin is leaving town to face Batavia after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. South Elgin was dealt a 64-21 loss at the hands of Barrington on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Storm can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 119th, while the Fillies/Broncos are ranked 24th).
Meanwhile, Batavia had to kick off their season on the road on Saturday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top against Glenbard West by a score of 35-28.
Nathan Whitwell was a one-man wrecking crew for Batavia as he rushed for 187 yards and three touchdowns. Whitwell was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 52 yards.
Batavia wouldn't let Glenbard West keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Batavia can thank Xavier Blanquel and Chase Osborne for forcing both of them. Blanquel's also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up two sacks, forcing a fumble, and making four total tackles which he returned for a touchdown. Another thorn in Glenbard West's side was Jake Feller, who picked up two sacks, made nine total tackles, and defended a pass.
South Elgin couldn't quite finish off Batavia in their previous matchup back in October of 2017 and fell 10-7. Can South Elgin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
