Basketball Game Preview: Fairbanks Panthers vs. Madison Plains Golden Eagles

Two dominant guards in Mara Vicari and Anna Stroup are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Fairbanks Panthers are taking a road trip to take on the Madison Plains Golden Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Fairbanks is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

Last Wednesday, Fairbanks was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 59-54 to Greenon.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Madison Plains). They breezed by Northeastern to the tune of 63-16 on Thursday. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 47-11.

Madison Plains' victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Fairbanks, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4.

Fairbanks was able to grind out a solid win over Madison Plains in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 38-26. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fairbanks since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
