Hackleburg (Ala.) defeat
Phillips (Bear Creek, Ala.) 40-16 after a strong game from
Kristian Jones, who rushed for four touchdowns. Thanks to the stand out performance the freshman now has 12 touchdowns on the season.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Jones in the second quarter, the Panthers led 20-8 at the half.
Hackleburg saw its 12-point halftime lead fall to 10 entering the fourth.
A 14-point fourth quarter was enough to cement the win for HHS, as it pushed the final margin of victory to 24.
The Bears'
Rodney Camp played well. The senior quarterback ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to 12 on the year.
Coming into the game the Panthers had allowed 22.7 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding Phillips well below its season average of 37.0 points scored per game.
A 32-6 Hackleburg victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The loss comes after Phillips defeated Waterloo 52-22 last week. The loss snapped PHS's 3-game winning streak.
Phillips (4-3) will play a 1A Region 8 game against Tharptown next week, while Hackleburg (6-1) will take on Shoals Christian also in a 1A Region 8 game.
