Baseball Recap: San Manuel Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for San Manuel, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They blew past the Valley Lutheran Flames 18-7 on Tuesday. The Miners might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by seven runs or more this season.

Tanner Decker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. He is becoming a predictor of San Manuel's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-1 (and 1-4 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, San Manuel let Taylor Decker and Isaiah Huerta run wild. Decker went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Huerta scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave Huerta a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcos Smith, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

San Manuel was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

San Manuel's record now sits at 8-5. As for Valley Lutheran, they dropped their record down to 1-4 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. San Manuel will welcome Mogollon at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Miners' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 12.2 runs per game this season. As for Valley Lutheran, they will take on Maryvale Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
