 On Tuesday, South Salem faced Mountain View in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The South Salem Saxons narrowly escaped with a  victory as the  team sidled past the Mountain View Cougars  8-6. The  win was familiar territory for South Salem who now have five in a row.
  Carter Nelson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered six earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.
 At the plate,  Noah Scharer was  excellent,  getting on base  in three of his four plate appearances with two  RBI and a  double.
 South Salem pushed their record up to 23-2 with that  victory, which was their 15th straight  at home. As for Mountain View, they are  on  a  three-game losing streak  that has dropped them down to 16-9.
 Both  squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Salem will  challenge Jesuit at 5:00  p.m.  on Thursday. South Salem is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9  runs per game  this season. As for Mountain View, they will head out on the road to  face off against  Sandy at 4:30  p.m.  on Thursday.
