Softball Game Preview: Manchester Lancers vs. Varina Blue Devils

The Manchester Lancers are taking a road trip to face off against the Varina Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Manchester hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

On Thursday, Manchester wound up with the same score they had in their last game (2-1), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.

Cam Winiarski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Emma Newsom made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 19 runs the game before, Varina was a bit more limited in their matchup on Monday. They lost 10-0 to Mechanicsville.

Varina's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Manchester, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.

Manchester beat Varina 5-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2017. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lancers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
