Softball Recap: Charleston Wins Going Away Against Cedarville

Charleston won the last time they faced Cedarville and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Tigers blew past the Pirates 9-1. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won six matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Hannah Ward was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ella Dodson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Leah Oberlies was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Charleston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.

Charleston's win bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Cedarville, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.

Charleston does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cedarville, they will face off against Dardanelle at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Sand Lizards have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.15 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of.
