Basketball Recap: Payton Huff's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ben Lomond over Gunnison Valley

Ben Lomond played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Gunnison Valley Bulldogs an easy 58-38 win. The Scots were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-12.

Several Scots players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Payton Huff, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 12 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Aleia Huff, who posted 13 points and six rebounds.

Payton wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Ben Lomond was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January.

Gunnison Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rylee Bartholomew, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 boards. Bartholomew has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Autumn Anderson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 boards.

Ben Lomond has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season. As for Gunnison Valley, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2.

Ben Lomond will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on South Summit at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Gunnison Valley, they will venture away from home to square off against North Sanpete at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
