Softball Game Preview: Maiden Blue Devils vs. Bunker Hill Bears

The Maiden Blue Devils will face off against the Bunker Hill Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Maiden is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.

Maiden blew Bandys out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Bandys got their revenge. Maiden fell just short of Bandys by a score of 6-4.

Maiden saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ella Bryan, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Payten Mann also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Bunker Hill got themselves on the board against East Burke on Friday, but East Burke never followed suit. They blew past the Cavaliers 10-0. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by seven runs or more this season.

Serena Thurman made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Kyra Ryhal was a standout: she scored a run while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Alexis Stuebe, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Bunker Hill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Bunker Hill pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Maiden, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
