Baseball Recap: Gunnison Takes a Loss

Gunnison dropped their record down to 10-10 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Aspen Skiers by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Cowboys couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Aspen, they moved to 7-12 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since March 15, 2024.

For Aspen's part, Thor Raarup made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Raarup is becoming a predictor of Aspen's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 5-11 when he doesn't). Raarup was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Raarup wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Caden LaPointe, who went 2-for-3 with one run. That's the most hits LaPointe has posted since back in March.
