Basketball Game Preview: Tesoro Titans vs. San Clemente Tritons

The Tesoro Titans will face off against the San Clemente Tritons at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Tesoro sitting on three straight wins and San Clemente on four.

Last Friday, Tesoro rang in the new year with a 71-62 victory over El Toro. Given the Titans' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while the Chargers are ranked 316th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, San Clemente beat Villa Park 58-53 on Monday.

San Clemente's win came from a few key players Tesoro will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Porter Hansen, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 18 points. The game was his sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Tolliver, who posted six points and 13 rebounds.

San Clemente smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matchups.

San Clemente is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. As for Tesoro, their win bumped their record up to 14-6.

Tesoro couldn't quite finish off San Clemente in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 and fell 47-44. Can Tesoro avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
