Basketball Recap: Edinburg's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Edinburg had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They snuck past the La Joya Coyotes with a 58-52 win. That's more bragging rights for the Bobcats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Leading Edinburg to victory were Yuri Perez and Arianee Salazar. Perez posted 33 points and five rebounds, while Salazar almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. That makes it four consecutive games in which Perez has scored at least a third of Edinburg's points.

Edinburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive contests.

La Joya's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brianna Reyna, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 16 boards. With that strong performance, Reyna is now averaging an impressive 8.3 rebounds per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Berenice Gonzalez, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 12 points and seven rebounds.

Edinburg is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a massive bump to their 15-12 record this season. As for La Joya, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-16.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Edinburg Bobcats challenge the Economedes Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for La Joya, they will square off against Edinburg North at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
