Baseball Recap: Serena's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Serena got themselves on the board against Seneca on Saturday, but Seneca never followed suit. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over the Fighting Irish. The game was the first time the Huskers have beaten the Fighting Irish on their field since April 8, 2017.

Beau Raikes was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over 6.1 innings pitched. Serena is 2-1 when Raikes posts eight or more strikeouts, but 0-6 otherwise. Raikes was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024.

Serena's win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-7. As for Seneca, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Serena will venture away from home to take on Earlville at 4:30 a.m. on Monday. The Red Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.38 runs per game on average), something the Huskers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Seneca, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Normal University at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Pioneers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Fighting Irish surely won't give up without a fight.
