Softball Recap: Weston Trojans vs. New Fairfield Rebels

Weston had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-5 to make it nine. They lost 17-5 to the New Fairfield Rebels. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 12-0 to the Rebels when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Ashley McCain made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with five stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

As for New Fairfield, the win got them back to even at 3-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by six runs or more this season.

On New Fairfield's side, Sarah Ottusch was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Ottusch was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, three doubles, and two runs.

In other batting news, New Fairfield got a massive performance out of Claire Stogner, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Briana Puff, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Weston will take on rival Kolbe-Cathedral at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, New Fairfield is set to challenge their familiar foe Pomperaug at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
