Softball Recap: Merrillville Wins Going Away Against Lake Station Edison

Merrillville's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They put the hurt on the Lake Station Edison Fighting Eagles with a sharp 24-12 win. The Pirates have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Fighting Eagles, too.

Merrillville got a massive performance out of Elani Alvarez, who fired off five runs, two triples, and five RBI while going 6-for-6. Those two triples gave Alvarez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aliveah Triveno, who went a perfect 6-for-6 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Merrillville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .660. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Merrillville's victory bumped their record up to 4-22. As for Lake Station Edison, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Merrillville will challenge Portage at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lake Station Edison, they will face off against Hebron at 1:00 p.m. on Monday.
