Basketball Recap: James Irwin Comes Up Short

James Irwin lost against The Vanguard School back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The James Irwin Jaguars were beaten by The Vanguard School Coursers 67-27. The Jaguars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-19.

James Irwin's loss came despite strong showings from Hannah Meier and Stella Reed. Meier posted 14 points in addition to eight blocks and seven steals, while Reed put up eight points. Reed continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

The Vanguard School's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jordyn Christensen, who shot 91% from the field on her way to 20 points and four steals. Those 91% shooting accuracy gave Christensen a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Blanchard, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten assists.

James Irwin dropped their record down to 4-12 with the defeat, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. As for The Vanguard School, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-10.

James Irwin didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 57-26 loss against Thomas MacLaren School on the 24th. As for The Vanguard School, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 62-41 victory against Manitou Springs on the 24th.
