Softball Game Preview: Lamar Tigers vs. Billings Wildcats

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Lamar Tigers face off against Billings Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lamar has four straight wins, Billings has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Friday, Lamar was able to grind out a solid victory over Baxter Springs, taking the game 7-3.

Lexy Stephen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Stephen was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Peyton Eddie, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Zavrie Wiss, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Billings lost 11-1 to Lockwood on Thursday.

Billings' loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Lamar, their record is now 4-2.

Everything went Lamar's way against Billings when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Lamar made off with a 15-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lamar since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
