Recap: Newton Falls Tigers vs. Brookfield Warriors
The Newton Falls Tigers had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. Everything went their way against Brookfield as Newton Falls made off with a 57-33 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Newton Falls has posted yet this season.
Leading Newton Falls to victory were Carson Howard and Jabriel Rufai. Howard scored 22 points, while Rufai scored 18 points along with six rebounds and six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Howard has scored all season. Zach Stinson was another key contributor, scoring three points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Brookfield lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Matteo Fortuna, who scored 12 points along with two steals. Fortuna has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times he's played.
Newton Falls' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Brookfield, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton Falls won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Southeast at 2:15 p.m. on January 13th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Ohio (Southeast is ranked 365th, while Newton Falls is ranked 343rd). As for Brookfield, they will head out on the road to square off against Garfield at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Garfield is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
