Softball Recap: Bloomington Snags Seventh Win in Last Eight Games

After losing to Lincoln the last time they met, Bloomington decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Purple Raiders walked away with a 6-3 win over the Railsplitters on Tuesday.

Reilly Vetter was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Bloomington let Lauren Shuey and Abi Witt run wild. Shuey went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run, while Witt went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Shuey has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mara Copes, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Bloomington is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for Lincoln, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bloomington will venture away from home to face off against Manual at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lincoln, they will face off against Pekin at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Railsplitters' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dragons have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
