Basketball Recap: Lucas Antonio's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Dayton over Roselle

Dayton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 54-48 heartbreaker at the hands of the Roselle Rams. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 58-55 back in January.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lucas Antonio, who went 7 for 15 on his way to 21 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks. Antonio is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last three games he's played. Chris Rodrigues was another key player, putting up six points.

Zaire Hopson was his usual excellent self, posting 16 points in addition to seven assists and five boards for Roselle. Hopson continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Marcus Beneche, who posted eight points and three steals.

Dayton's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Roselle, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Dayton has already played their next contest, a 55-40 victory against Koinonia Academy on the 30th. As for Roselle, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-42 defeat against Metuchen on the 29th.
