Preview: Southwestern Heights Mustangs vs. Stanton County Trojans
The Southwestern Heights Mustangs and the Stanton County Trojans will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Southwestern Heights is no doubt hoping to put an end to a 13-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Southwestern Heights pushed their score all the way to 59 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. Their tough 82-59 loss to Lakin might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Southwestern Heights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while the Broncs are ranked 27th).
Meanwhile, Stanton County didn't have too much trouble with the Wildcats on the road on Tuesday as they won 68-53. The win made it back-to-back wins for Stanton County.
Stanton County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Gerardo Robles out in front who scored 19 points along with six rebounds. It was the first time this season that Robles scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Juan Aleman, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Southwestern Heights' loss dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Stanton County, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Southwestern Heights came up short against the Trojans in their previous matchup on Monday, falling 53-45. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Stanton County's David Crane, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
