Mikal Ashley leads a balanced attack to beat Wingate

Recap: Newcomb Skyhawks vs. Wingate Bears

The Newcomb Skyhawks entered their tilt with the Wingate Bears with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Newcomb secured a 49-43 W over Wingate on Tuesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Newcomb also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.

Newcomb's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mikal Ashley, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Ashley has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Darium Peshlakai, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

Newcomb is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Wingate, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9.

Newcomb the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Tohatchi at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Tohatchi is ranked 58th, while Newcomb is ranked 70th). As for Wingate, they will head out on the road to face off against Navajo Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Navajo Prep has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 458 points over their last six games.
