Baseball Recap: Marion Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Marion dropped their record down to 14-6 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins on the road. They fell 8-3 to the Harrisburg Bulldogs. If the Wildcats were looking for revenge after losing 4-3 to the Bulldogs when the teams met back in April of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Harrisburg, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

For Harrisburg's part, Briar Butler tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Butler has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Reed Rider, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Felix Maynard was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Looking ahead, Marion will challenge Centralia at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Orphans will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Harrisburg, they will take on Massac County at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
