Basketball Game Preview: Gunter Tigers vs. Pottsboro Cardinals

Gunter has won 16 straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Pottsboro has won 16 straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Gunter Tigers face off against the Pottsboro Cardinals at 6:15 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Tuesday, Gunter was fully in charge, breezing past Leonard 59-21. With Gunter ahead 30-2 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Meanwhile, everything went Pottsboro's way against Leonard on Saturday as Pottsboro made off with a 41-21 win. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 161st, while the Tigers are ranked 558th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gunter is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 25-3 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 34.3 points. As for Pottsboro, their victory bumped their record up to 25-3.

Everything went Gunter's way against Pottsboro in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as Gunter made off with a 55-34 win. Will Gunter repeat their success, or does Pottsboro have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
