Basketball Game Preview: Starpoint Spartans vs. North Tonawanda Lumberjacks

The Starpoint Spartans will face off against the North Tonawanda Lumberjacks at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Starpoint comes in on four and North Tonawanda on nine.

Last Thursday, Starpoint beat Orchard Park 48-40.

Meanwhile, North Tonawanda extended their postseason success on Thursday against Kenmore West. They strolled past the Blue Devils with points to spare, taking the game 56-40. The game was the first time the Lumberjacks have beaten the Blue Devils on their court since December 21, 2021.

North Tonawanda's win came from a few key players Starpoint will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ella Cashion, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 13 boards. That's the most points she has posted since back in December of 2024. Jakayla Brown was another key player, dropping a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

North Tonawanda smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

North Tonawanda's win bumped their record up to 20-2. As for Starpoint, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Everything went Starpoint's way against North Tonawanda in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as Starpoint made off with a 66-40 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Starpoint since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
