Baseball Recap: Brethren Comes Up Short

Brethren extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-6 in the process. They lost 14-0 to the Buckley Bears. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 on Tuesday.

As for Buckley, the win got them back to even at 5-5. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Buckley's part, Landon Kulawiak was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Kulawiak also tossed a walk, which is notable because Buckley is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-4 otherwise. Kulawiak was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Coy Breithaupt, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Buckley: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Brethren will host Benzie Central at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Huskies will aim to continue their five-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last. As for Buckley, they will be playing at home against Suttons Bay at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Norsemen have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12 runs per game on average), something the Bears will no doubt try to take advantage of.
