Softball Game Preview: Newport Cubs vs. Philomath Warriors

Newport is 2-8 against Philomath since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Cubs are taking a road trip to take on the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. Newport has given up an average of 12.6 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Newport is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Sweet Home on Monday. They came up short against the Huskies, falling 13-1.

Ivy Ruddiman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one double. Emry Belloni also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Philomath was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 21-9 to Cascade.

Hailey Smith was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Newport's defeat dropped their record down to 4-17. As for Philomath, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.
