Basketball Recap: St. Monica Comes Up Short

St. Monica has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were one points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 61-60 heartbreaker at the hands of the Leuzinger Olympians. The Mariners were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Olympians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.

Joshua Garland was his usual excellent self, going 5 of 11 on his way to 16 points and eight rebounds for Leuzinger. The team also got some help courtesy of Samu Moala, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

St. Monica's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Leuzinger, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-3.

St. Monica will welcome Animo Venice at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Leuzinger, they will take on Centennial in a tournament on Wednesday. Centennial knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Leuzinger likes a good challenge.
