Softball Preview: Cherokee Indians vs. Athens Bible Trojans
The Cherokee Indians will head out on the road to square off against the Athens Bible Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cherokee will be strutting in after a win while Athens Bible will be coming in after a defeat.
Cherokee took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Shoals Christian, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Indians had just enough and edged out the Flame 8-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Indians.
Libby Collum was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off 12 hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February.

In other batting news, Layla Gorman was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gracie Waldrep, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Athens Bible was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against East Limestone, falling 15-5.
Cherokee's record is now 8-14. As for Athens Bible, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.
Cherokee couldn't quite finish off Athens Bible in their previous matchup back in March and fell 4-2. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
