Softball Game Preview: Greenway Demons vs. Buckeye Hawks

Greenway has gone a perfect 3-0 against Buckeye recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Demons will look to defend their home field against the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Greenway fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Paradise Honors on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 6-4. That makes it the first time this season the Demons have let down their home crowd.

Madison Bailey put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over eight innings while giving up six earned runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Bailey was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Bailey wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bella Morris, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Buckeye's offense. They lost 8-0 to Canyon View on Thursday. The Hawks just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

This is the second loss in a row for Greenway and nudges their season record down to 15-8-1. As for Buckeye, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-8.

Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Greenway has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. However, it's not like Buckeye struggles in that department as they've averaged .474. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Everything went Greenway's way against Buckeye in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, as Greenway made off with a 6-0 victory. Will the Demons repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
