Volleyball Recap: Portage Takes a Loss

Portage extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-17 in the process. They fell 3-1 to the Valparaiso Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in April.

Kimari Beasley paced Portage's offense, picking up 16 kills. Beasley got some help from Walter Shumpert and his 27 assists.

As for Valparaiso, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season. The victory was familiar territory for they, who have now won four matchups in a row.

Leading Valparaiso to victory were Colton Allen and Lucas FioRito. Allen had ten digs and one assist, while FioRito had 15 assists and five digs. That's the most digs FioRito has posted over his last six contests. Mason Artherhults also deserves some recognition as he had his first block of the season.

Portage has already played their next game, a 3-0 win against DeMotte Christian on the 15th. As for Valparaiso, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-1 defeat against Boone Grove on the 15th.
